Ballyheigue v Dr Crokes

 

Ballyheigue were first to book a place in this year’s Garvey’s SuperValu County Senior Hurling Championship Quarter-Finals with a win over Dr Crokes in Round 2 of Group C. It finished 2 – 26 (32) to 0 – 16 (16).

Aided by a strong breeze blowing from black spot to black spot, Dr Crokes were fastest out of the blocks leading on the scoreboard throughout the first quarter. However, Eric Walsh’s 18th-minute goal saw Ballyheigue begin to pull away and they went in at half-time with a lead of 1 – 11 to 0 – 08.

Ballyheigue pulled away in the second half with some accurate shooting from range. Philip Lucid scored their second goal on 51 minutes with his tally for the evening 1 – 11 (0 – 3f). First half goal scorer Eric Walsh finished the night with 1 – 04. Mark Heffernan hit 0 – 08 from the placed sliotar for Dr Crokes (0 – 07f, 0 – 01 65).

Dr Crokes will play Kilmoyley in the final match of Group C to decide who will be joining Ballyheigue in the Quarter-Finals. The loser of that match heads to the play-offs.
