The Kerry GAA Club Coaching programme is aimed at existing coaches of Gaelic Football in Kerry, specifically those working with club teams from U14 to Senior. Over the course of the 2-day programme (6 hours each day), this coach development programme will cover seven (7) modules on a variety of bespoke topics and will be delivered by a team of highly experienced coach developers. The programme is also designed to include flexibility in the delivery of the modules should the needs of the coaches change at any particular time.
Mitigating injuries & return to play
At the end of this module, coaches will be able to:
- Understand theories of how most common injuries occur
- Control v uncontrollable factors
- Mitigation strategies
- Return to play & performance
Planning & Activity Design
At the end of this module, coaches will be able to:
- Understand the cycles and stages involved when planning a season in a sport
- Evaluate what are the key components that need to be included in each cycle of a season for a team
- Plan a Game Based Approach session plan to a chosen block of a season for a team
- Understand activity design and how these work in programme planning and performances
Strength, power and change of direction in rehabilitation & performance
At the end of this module, coaches will be able to:
- Understand key technique related to agility performance.
- Integrate agility training effectively into their practices.
- Understand how to manage agility training to reduce injury
Sport Science
At the end of this module, coaches will be able to:
- Understand the importance of strength training and its influence on sporting performance
- Develop an awareness and understanding of sports science.
- Understand the concepts of Kerry GAA Strength & Conditioning Coaching programme, processes and practice
Growth & Maturation
At the end of this module, coaches will be able to:
- Understand the basics of Growth and Maturation and effects on selection and performance
- Explore how maturation can be monitored and applied in a coach-friendly way
- Evaluate a case study of a bio-banding intervention within the talent academy from a player and coach perspective
- Understand how to support early and late maturing players at club level
Attacking Principles of Play
At the end of this module, coaches will be able to:
- Describe the principles of an effective attacking play
- Analyse the attacking styles of the most effective modern day sports teams
- Analyse your own attacking style and identify areas to work on and improve
- Understand how to devise a game plan for a team in a sports environment
- Analyse how to transfer a game plan from the training ground to a game situation in a sports team
Defensive Principles of Play
At the end of this module, coaches will be able to:
- Describe the principles of an effective defensive play
- Analyse the defensive styles of the most effective modern day sports teams
- Analyse your own defensive style and identify areas to work on and improve
- Understand how to devise a game plan for a team in a sports environment
- Analyse how to transfer a game plan from the training ground to a game situation in a sports team
