COUNTY FINALS OF SCÓR NA BPÁISTÍ 2022
Scór within the County came to a conclusion on Saturday last as the Lee Strand sponsored County Finals of Scór Na bPáistí revealed the Cultural talents of participating Clubs before the presence of a bumper audience held in the Halla na Dromoda, Cillian Liath Community Hall.
The variety of talent on show was exceptional from; Dance, through to Song, Music and Drama which was preceeded by the Tráth Na gCeist discpline.
Certainly it proved once again the popularity of this national schools children’s competition and those that got the nod on Saturday last were lucky as each category was hotly contested.
The programme ran smoothly in the efficient presence of the on-stage MCs Suzanne Ní Laoire and P J Mulvihill, Coiste Scór Ciarraí.
At the end of the competitions, Criostóir O Cillín, Oifigeach Cultura Chiarraí, thanked all our sponsors and especially Lee Strand for their kind sponsorship of Scór Na bPáistí; also mentioned were Estuary Print, Ballylongford (sponsor of the “Siobhan Cotter Memorial Shield”, donated by the Cotter family for the overall Trophy in honour of the late Siobhan which was won by Waterville as well as Trophy World, Tralee/Estuary Print and Trophies, Ballylongford – sponsors for the overall trophy the “Healy/Connor Perpetual Cup” to the Club who had participated most in Scór discplines over the duration of the competitions; (Scór Sinsear, Scór Na nÓg and Scór Na bPáistí) and here it was Dromid who scooped the award.
Special mention went to all the day’s participants along with the adjudicators, Ger Mangan on Sound and our hard working Scór secretary, Suzanne Ní Laoire and everybody who helped on the day.
He went on to thank the Halla na Dromoda, Cillian Liath Community Hall for hosting the day’s activities, all competitors who performed on stage and the appreciative audience for such an enjoyable evening; great credit due to them, their parents and tutors.
The day got off to an early start with the County Finals of the Tráth na gCeist opening the days proceedings. 11 teams took part with Spa taking the honours. (39 marks out of 40) over their District Board rivals Fossa.
Moving on to the on stage discplines we had the remainder of the days programme and when proceedings got under-way with the Solo Singing it was Ide Hussey of Crotta O’Neills who entered the winners enclosure with Oliva Angland, Glenflesk second.
Moving on to the Recitation and here Daithí O’Shea, Dromid was a very popular winner followed in second spot by Rian Gleeson from Glenflesk.
Instrumental Music was next on the agenda and here we had another South Kerry winner with Valentia taking the honours. From North Kerry we had Beale competiting for the first time at this level in this category and who finished second.
Without doubt like all the various discplines the Novelty Act was a tough one to call but when the adjudicators made their decision Foilmore proved tops on this occasion while Listry finished runner up.
Sean Nós Dancing introduced with the last few years has been very popular with the audiences and this time around the honours went to Dara Cinniede of Listowel Emmets with Churchill’s Sarah Duggan runner up.
Figure Dancing saw Waterville scoop 1st place with Dr. Crokes in second place.
Reenard took the honours in the Ballad group closely followed by Cordal.
Finally, the remaining discipline of the evening saw Legion take the honours in the Set Dancing while Waterville were just edged out for second place.
It was a very successful day for the Waterville club who scooped the Siobhan Cotter Memorial Shield for the best overall club on the day
The Healy/Connor Perpetual Cup was presented to the Club who had participated most in Scór discplines over the duration of the competitions (Scór Sinsear, Scór Na nÓg and Scór Na bPáistí) and it was another South Kerry Club; Dromid who took the honours.
Kerry Minor Footballer Donnagh O Sullivan from the local club, Dromid presented the winners and runners up with their medals amid great scenes of excitement. This competition finishes at this stage.
