Garvey’s Senior Football Final
Next Saturday is the highlight of the football Calendar in Kerry! At 7pm, in Austin Stack Park the ball will be thrown in for the start of the Garvey’s Senior County Final. This year’s County Final is an all-district affair featuring East Kerry and Mid Kerry. The beautiful Bishop Moynihan Cup will either make a return trip to East Kerry or instead travel to Mid Kerry after a 12 year absence! The Man of the Match Trophy is sponsored by Garveys and the Dingle Skellig Hotel has kindly sponsored a voucher for the Man of the Match.
The Garvey’s County Senior Football final will be live-streamed on the Kerry GAA website and can be purchased for 10 Euro. The ‘stream’ or the programme will go live at 6pm with lots of interviews as part of the build up! Then at 7pm Gary O’Sullivan and Sean O’Sullivan will take over with live commentary. At half-time, the Laune Rangers team of 1995 will be honoured with interviews from those involved in the final of that year.

The match programme will be available to download for free from the Kerry GAA website on Saturday morning. New Competition Approved
A club forum was held last Thursday online. 85 people attended on behalf of their Club or District. It was an opportunity for the CCC to make a presentation to Clubs on a suggested ‘Millennium Cup’ type competition for the remaining weekends of the year. The format suggested was as follows –
4 Cup Competitions (16 per each Cup)
– Cup 1 = 8 Senior Clubs v 8 top Intermediate Clubs
– Cup 2 = 8 lowest Intermediate v 8 top Junior Premier
– Cup 3 = 8 lowest Junior Premier v 8 top Junior
– Cup 4 = 8 lowest Junior v 8 from remaining teams
The games are to be played regardless of whether inter-county players are available or not. Feedback from the clubs was taken on the night and the Management Committee met on Monday night to review the feedback.
The Management Committee approved the proposal. CCC will issue invitations to Clubs this week and the Club will decide whether to take part or not. It will be an exciting competition with Cups and Shields on offer! Everyone remembers the Millennium Cup and likewise this new Competition will be remembered in the history books. We are hoping to secure a sponsor for this competition and the company in question will get the opportunity to be associated with this unique competition as well as being in a position to give back to the Club player. Our Clubs were unbelievable in how they tackled every obstacle placed in their way since March and now it is time that they are rewarded for their help.
Hurling
Congratulations to Kilmoyley on winning the 2020 Garvey’s SuperValu Kerry Co. Senior Hurling Championship title. In last Sunday’s final, played at Austin Stack Park, they defeated reigning champions, Causeway, by 2 – 12 to 1 – 14 in an excellent final. This was Kilmoyley’s 25th title and it puts them joint top of the roll of honour with Ballyduff. Team captain, John Brendan O’Halloran received Corn Neilus Ó Floinn from Tim Murphy, Cathaoirleach Choiste Contae Chiarraí, C.L.G.
Intermediate
Congratulations to Dr. Crokes on winning the Co. Intermediate Hurling Championship. In the curtain raiser to the senior final they had a 2 – 15 to 0 – 14 win over Tralee Parnell’s. Team captain, centre back Mike Milner, accepted Corn Antaine Ó Murchú. This was Dr. Crokes 3rd title at this level having previously won it in 1999 & 2001.
Junior
Round 2 of the Co. Junior Hurling Championship is scheduled for this Sunday, 27 September when Duagh play St. Pat’s East Kerry. Venue is Duagh where there will be a 2.30p.m. throw in. This competition is being played on a league system with the top 2 teams to contest the Final.
North Kerry
The Final of the 2020 Rhyno Quality Feeds North Kerry Senior Hurling Championship [John Joe O’Sullivan Memorial Cup] is fixed for Sunday, 2 October. It will be a repeat of last Sunday’s county final as Causeway has qualified to meet Kilmoyley in the decider. Venue to be confirmed.
Under 12
Lee Strand Coiste na nÓg Under 12 Hurling league Phase 2, Round 4 result: Group C – Lixnaw 3 – 3 Rathmore 2 – 6. Lixnaw play Abbeydorney in a back game this Wednesday at 6.15pm.
Under 14
In the Lee Strand Coiste na nÓg Under 14 Hurling League Division 1 semi-final, St. Brendan’s had a 4 – 7 to 1 – 4 win over Kenmare/Kilgarvan at Ardfert on Sunday morning. St. Brendan’s will meet Ballyduff in the Final this weekend. Details will be posted on both the North Kerry Hurling and Coiste na nÓg Facebook pages as soon as available.
Under 16
Both of the Lee Strand Coiste na nÓg Under 16 Championship finals went ahead last weekend with Lixnaw & St. Brendan’s successful. On Saturday at Abbeydorney, St. Brendan’s had a 4 – 12 to 1 – 12 win over Tralee Parnell’s. Joint team captains were Keith O’Mahony & Fionán Egan.
On Sunday morning at Ballyheigue, Lixnaw had a superb extra time win over the combined Crotta/Kilmoyley side. Final score 1 – 23 to 1 – 20. The winning Lixnaw panel was: Kieran Stack, Aidan Mahony, Bryan Allen (captain), Christopher O’Sullivan, Evan Kelliher, Aaron
