Senior Club Championship Semi Finals listed for Sunday next
The semi finals of the Castleisland Mart Senior Club Championships are down for decision on Sunday next with a double bill in Austin Stack Park sure to provide some interesting fare especially given the number of Kerry senior panellists on view together with the fact that the Senior Football Championship will follow just one week later. Add in the fact that the two senior club finalists will be exempt from any potential banana skin in the relegation playoff to reduce the number of county championship sides in 2016 to eight and you certainly have sufficient reasons for all four sides to be fully committed to the cause this weekend.
Club champions Dr Crokes will put their title on the line when they take on old adversaries Rathmore in the first semi final at 1:45pm. Rathmore of course inflicted a first County Championship defeat in five years on their East Kerry rivals just twelve months ago and have always been able to put it up to the black and amber side - even if not always coming out on the right side of the result. Dr Crokes will be smarting from their defeat last weekend at the hands of Austin Stacks in the League Final and will be hoping that some of their injured players such as Fionn Fitzgerald, Alan O’Sullivan and Ambrose O’Donovan will be available to them for this encounter.
Second game on the bill is the meeting of Austin Stacks and Dingle at 3:30pm. These sides met in the senior football championship semi final last October when Stacks had a convincing seven points winning margin on their way to the final and no doubt, Dingle will see this as an opportunity of reversing that result. The Tralee side are fresh from their morale boosting victory over Dr Crokes in the League Final last weekend but Dingle will be happy enough with their progress this year with a young side and they also got a boost last week with a good win in the County League over Legion.
The senior club final has been provisionally fixed for Saturday May 30th but that fixture is dependent on both finalists winning their opening round of the Senior football championship on the previous week.
Intermediate and Junior Club Semi Finals
Following requests from teams involved in the semi-finals - (John Mitchels/Spa and St Marys/Desmonds in the Intermediate and Firies/Templenoe and Beaufort/Glenbeigh-Glencar in the Junior) – the CCC decided to defer the semi -finals of these two championships, which were due to be played on the weekend of June 21st , to later in the year. Clubs were anxious to have full panels available to them for the semi -finals and were mindful of the J1 student exodus to the USA as well as second and third level exams.
